In a game that proved to be a battle of the goalies, the Montana State University Bobcats suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat to the Grand Canyon University Antelopes on January 30th, 2026 at AZ Ice Arcadia. Despite falling short on the scoreboard, the Bobcats showed commendable resilience against a formidable Antelopes team.
The Bobcats managed to fire 28 shots on goal, all of which were expertly saved by Antelopes’ goalie Annika Olson. On the other end of the ice, Bobcats’ goalie Reese Mcconnell faced a barrage of 52 shots, saving all but one to keep the Bobcats in the game.
The only goal of the match came courtesy of Antelopes’ #5 Taylor Zahalka, proving to be the game-winner. Both teams had four powerplay opportunities, but neither could capitalize on their chances, reflecting the strong defensive performance from both sides.
The Bobcats’ #19 Aziana Schacht was handed two penalty minutes, adding to the pressure on the team. However, the Bobcats’ defense held firm, denying the Antelopes any further scoring opportunities.
Despite the loss, the Bobcats should take pride in their performance against a tough Antelopes team. They will look to bounce back in their next game away vs University of Arizona on Sat, Jan 31 at 6:15 pm MST at AZ Ice Peoria. The Bobcats will be hoping to turn their fortunes around and secure a much-needed win.
