The Montana State University Bobcats showed off their prowess on the ice yesterday evening, taking down the University of Wyoming Pokes in a decisive 4-1 victory at Haynes Pavilion. Despite being outshot by the Pokes, the Bobcats’ defense and goaltending proved to be the difference in the game.
The Pokes dominated the shot count, firing off 55 shots compared to the Bobcats’ 35. However, Bobcats’ goalie Reese McConnell put on a stellar performance, saving an impressive 54 of 55 shots, and proving instrumental in securing the win for his team.
On the offensive end, Nicola Roberts, wearing #26 for the Bobcats, contributed with a crucial goal. Despite the Pokes’ strong offensive efforts, their only goal came from Zoey Brown.
Neither team managed to capitalize on their powerplay opportunities, with the Pokes going 0/3 and the Bobcats 0/4. This highlights the strong defensive play from both teams, but it was the Bobcats who ultimately came out on top.
Pokes’ goalie Pudgie Sabinash, despite a valiant effort, could not hold off the Bobcats’ offense, making 31 saves on 35 shots.
The Bobcats will aim to carry this momentum into their next game, a home match against the University of Utah on Friday, February 20th, at the CU Boulder Rec Center Ice Rink. The team will undoubtedly be looking to continue their winning streak and further establish their dominance on the ice.
