by MSU Bobcats Hockey | Oct 2, 2026

The Montana State University Bobcats put up a valiant effort on Saturday, but ultimately fell short in a 3-1 loss to the University of Utah Utes at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex.

Despite being outshot 58-22, the Bobcats managed to keep the game competitive. Bobcats’ goalie, Reese McConnell, was a standout in the game, making an impressive 55 saves on 58 shots. Unfortunately, the Utes’ offensive pressure proved too much in the end.

The Bobcats’ lone goal came from Grace Cheney, who managed to find the back of the net amidst the Utes’ onslaught. However, the team struggled to capitalize on their powerplay opportunities, going 0/2.

On the other side, the Utes’ Morgan Lavalley provided two assists, contributing significantly to their victory. Utes’ goalie, Lauren Barnum, faced less pressure but remained steady, saving 21 of the 22 shots she faced.

The Bobcats will have a chance to redeem themselves as they face the Utes again on Saturday, October 3rd, at 1:30 pm MDT at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex. They will undoubtedly be looking to improve their shot count and powerplay effectiveness in their next outing.
