The Montana State University Bobcats demonstrated their prowess on the ice with a commanding 4-1 victory over the University of Wyoming Pokes last night at the Haynes Pavilion. Despite being outshot 55-35, the Bobcats proved that it’s not about quantity, but quality when it comes to shots on goal.
The Pokes came out strong, peppering Bobcats’ goalie Reese McConnell with a barrage of shots. McConnell, however, was more than up to the task, making a staggering 54 saves on 55 shots, a performance that was instrumental in securing the Bobcats’ win.
On the other end of the rink, Pokes’ goalie Pudgie Sabinash faced 35 shots, managing to save 31. However, the Bobcats’ relentless offense proved too much for the Pokes to handle.
Despite both teams having multiple powerplay opportunities, neither team was able to convert. The Pokes went 0/3 and the Bobcats 0/4, showing that both teams’ penalty killing units were on their game.
The scoring was opened by Pokes #2 Zoey Brown, but the Bobcats quickly responded. #26 Nicola Roberts found the back of the net for the Bobcats, contributing to the team’s decisive win.
The Bobcats will look to carry this momentum into their next game, a home matchup against the University of Utah on Friday, February 20, at the CU Boulder Rec Center Ice Rink. The Bobcats’ fans are sure to be out in full force, cheering their team on and hoping for another thrilling victory.
